Carbon Tax and Shift

We here at ICE co. support efforts to reduce the overall impact that our business and our customer’s businesses have on the environment. One idea that has been successful in other regions, including recently in BC, Canada, and in Ireland beginning in 2010, is a carbon tax.


The Institute for Sustainable Solutions at Portland State University recently released a study, Carbon Tax and Shift: How to Make it Work for Oregon’s Economy. The study is available online, here:  



From the study…“By taxing carbon emissions and reducing Corporate and Personal Income tax rates, Oregon can reduce the negative incentives created by income taxes while generating revenue and reducing carbon emissions.”


Our businesses all are very dependent on energy, namely electricity. Without electricity, nothing we do would be possible. As more and more of that electricity is generated by sustainable means, and we are able to reduce our overall environmental impact, the better of we all are.


Whether you agree with the study’s conclusions or not, we can all agree that new ideas in sustainability are at least worth investigating, as we move to reduce our businesses’ overall impact on the environment.
